Grainline

Retail + Workroom

1621 Hennepin Ave, Suite #100, Minneapolis, MN, 55403

Grainline is a retail space, workroom, and creative platform dedicated to advancing artisanal independent fashion and material-based practices in Minneapolis and beyond.

Founded by designer Denimani Livingstone, Grainline was created to address a gap between creative talent and long-term sustainability. While many emerging designers possess exceptional technical and artistic abilities, few have access to the resources, mentorship, community, and commercial opportunities necessary to build lasting careers. Grainline exists to help bridge that divide.

Our storefront presents a carefully curated selection of garments, accessories, home goods, and objects created by independent designers, artisans, and makers. Alongside our retail program, Grainline operates as an active workroom where designers can develop their work, refine technical skills, and engage directly with a community of peers and mentors.

Throughout the year, Grainline hosts exhibitions, workshops, critiques, mentorship programs, and professional development opportunities focused on both creative growth and business viability. We believe that artistic excellence and financial sustainability are not opposing goals, but essential partners in building a thriving creative ecosystem.

Our programming places particular emphasis on supporting emerging designers, local talent, and historically underrepresented voices within the fashion industry. Through exhibitions, partnerships, educational initiatives, and collaborative projects, we aim to create pathways for designers to gain visibility, generate income, and establish enduring practices.

At its core, Grainline is a place for making. A place where ideas become objects, where skills are shared, and where creative people can build meaningful futures through their work.

Whether you're discovering independent design, developing your own practice, or looking to engage with a community of makers, Grainline welcomes you.
